The Food and Nutrition Services Dispatcher position is the lead position for the Patient Meal Services Trayline operation. The Dispatcher assures that all employees are available at position and initiates the trayline service. The Dispatcher communicates closely with the Trayline Supervisor for any problems that may need to be addressed during patient tray preparation and delivery. The Dispatcher is responsible to assure accuracy of all meal trays by signing each patient meal ticket after checking each tray. During late tray service the dispatcher assembles, dispatches and records the courtesy walk up trays. The Dispatcher is the key person that the Nutrition Call Center communicates with to address patient issues regarding meal trays. All walk up trays are recorded in the computer and the Dispatcher is responsible for the accuracy of the tray dispatch time to assure prompt delivery of patient meals. The Dispatcher records temperatures of all patient food served on the Patient Trayline according to the City of Houston Health Department standards. In addition, the Dispatcher sets up and prepares gold service Terrace meal trays and assures that these are presented in the highest quality level. This position acts as a lead position on the Trayline and excellent guest relations and open communication with the Supervisor is important. The Dispatcher assists the Senior Dispatchers and Nutrition Coordinators with patient menu collection and computer entry as needed.

General Summary:


Provides continuous observation of monitored EKG patterns of patients on telemetry and reports significant information to appropriate nursing personnel. The incumbent will function within a designated hospital area to assist nursing personnel in the close observation of monitored patients.

1. Continuous observation of monitored EKG patterns and pulse oximetry as ordered. Sets up, calibrates and maintains settings and alarms on telemetry module. Obtains rhythm strip at beginning of shift, on admission and whenever changes occur. Labels strip with patient identification, time, lead monitored, PR interval, ST interval, QRS interval.
2. Trouble shoots telemetry equipment, ensures monitors are functioning properly, ensure telemetry supplies are readily available. Accounts for all telemetry transmitters, verifies daily telemetry charges.
3. Identifies changes in rate, rhythm, or pattern, notifying RN of these changes. Responds appropriately to emergency situations, runs a continuous EKG strip and notifies appropriate staff.
4. Assists in answering telephone, ensures pull down desks are in upright position after posting EKG strips on patient chart, keeps work area neat and clean, no food or drink in work station, ensures transmitters are properly cleaned between patients, electrical cords off floor.
5. Demonstrates a commitment to personal growth and development by completing annual mandatory in-services and Code Validation within given time frame, attends unit-based in-services, attends monthly departmental meetings.
6. Demonstrates flexibility in responding to unit/service needs, i.e., floating to other areas.

The Phlebotomist is responsible for skillful and appropriate specimen collection, including bleeding times, by all methods (venipuncture by syringe, vacutainer, butterfly; heelstick; fingerstick) of all age groups, and outpatient settings. 3. Completes and maintains all paperwork required for proper specimen processing in the laboratory of the outpatient testing area specimens.
4. Performs computer test order entry as needed, according to laboratory policy, to include all patient information, tests, date/time of collection, priority, and appropriate sample information.
5. Establish and maintain cooperative relationship with patients, staff, and physicians.

The basic function of a Laboratory Technologist is to accurately analyze and report all tests ordered by the Medical Staff in a timely manner to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITES:

1. Performs procedures on patient specimens adhering to the laboratory standard operating procedures to ensure accurate and timely reporting.

2. Ensures that major automated equipment is operational by performing required maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting procedures according to the laboratory requirements and policies.

3. Performs required quality control procedures and maintains records to ensure tests are being performed within satisfactory limits.

4. Follows laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting of patient test results, and maintaining test result records.

5. Assists in evaluation of new/revised procedures and equipment to provide the physician with the most current laboratory technology.

6. Participates in opportunities for continuing education and/or teaching, training according to the laboratory performance standards to enhance technical skills. Maintains records, which demonstrate proficiency-testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.

7. Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratories established performance specifications.

8. Personnel must be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or test results; takes the necessary steps to correct the problems and if necessary immediately notifies the laboratory manager or laboratory director.

General Summary

The staff nurse is a licensed professional, responsible for the delivery of excellence in patient care through assessing, formulating nursing diagnoses and establishing goals, planning and implementing intervention and evaluating patient care outcomes. With the staff nurse's professional practice he/she is responsible for participating in and maintaining quality, cost effectiveness and guest relations. Staff nurses provide patient care in compliance with hospital policies and procedures and the standards of professional nursing practice defined in article 217.13 of the statutes regulating the practice of nursing as defined in article 217.13 by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas.
